Jamukurnu-Yapalikurnu Aboriginal Corporation (Western Desert Lands) RNTBC (JYAC) is the trusted official guardian of the Martu people’s exclusive possession of native title rights and interests over approximately 150,000 square kilometres of the breathtaking Western Desert in Western Australia—an area rich in history, culture, and community.
The determination covers an area north-east of Jigalong and includes landmarks such as Kumpupintil (formerly known as Lake Disappointment), Karlamilyi National Park, the Canning Stock Route from Well 16 to Well 39, the communities of Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji, as well as the mining centre Telfer. You will work with a fantastic team of people based out of East Perth, who are all committed to making a difference and supporting the aspirations of the Martu people.

Heritage Coordinator

The JYAC Heritage Coordinator is responsible for overseeing heritage surveys and monitoring activities across the Martu determination – 150,000 square kilometres of exclusive possession native title in the East Pilbara of WA. The role will also manage various heritage related projects and collaborate with mining proponents, heritage consultants and Martu people to ensure that Martu Ngurra (Country) is cared for.

The JYAC Heritage Coordinator role
The JYAC Heritage Coordinator, reporting to the Heritage and Landscape Manager, coordinates the work and heritage resources to undertake, support and deliver the annual heritage survey and monitoring program. This work helps Martu people stay healthy, supports families in building sustainable communities and livelihoods on and from their land, and ensures Martu culture remains strong.
The Martu Heritage Coordinator works with the Martu nominators to ensure the right people for the right country are involved in the surveys and monitoring activities. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to build positive cross-cultural relationships, collaborate with mining and exploration proponents, and heritage consultants managing logistics and reporting requirements. This role will also manage various heritage projects for JYAC.
We operate in a remote area of the East Pilbara in WA creating additional operational and logistical challenges.
The role is based in Perth with some travel to the East Pilbara area.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS
The position salary range will be negotiated based on demonstrated qualifications and experience.
Superannuation of 11.5%; 4 weeks annual leave plus 1 week paid end of year shutdown leave; salary packaging arrangements are available.

Ranger Coordinator

The JYAC Ranger Coordinator provides leadership to the JYAC Ranger team with responsibility for implementing land management activities across the Martu determination – 150,000 square kilometres of exclusive possession native title in the East Pilbara of WA. The Rangers also undertake work in the Warla-Warrarn Indigenous Protected Area within the Martu determination.
The JYAC Ranger Coordinator role
The JYAC Ranger Coordinator, reporting to the Heritage and Landscape Manager, coordinates the work and resources of the JYAC Rangers, and partners to undertake, support and deliver land management activities including right way fire, water management, pest control, animal monitoring and cultural knowledge transfer. This work helps Martu people stay healthy, supports families in building sustainable communities and livelihoods on and from their land, and ensures Martu culture remains strong.
The Martu Ranger Coordinator role also coordinates the Martu Ranger’s training program to assist each ranger build his or her capacity, skills capability and career aspirations to safely, and with good practice, implement the operations work plan and look after on-country infrastructure, transport, plant and equipment that rangers rely on and have responsibility for.
Martu Country is located in a remote area of the East Pilbara in WA, with limited infrastructure, which presents additional operational and logistical challenges. JYAC is seeking candidates with natural resource management (or similar field) skills and experience and who are up for the challenge, leading our JYAC ranger team in scheduled activities on country whilst inspiring success in planning, training and safe practice.
