Niminjarra Highway
Niminjarra Highway
The Niminjarra Highway will connect Punmu and Parnngurr through the Karlamilyi National Park to provide a safer, more direct route between two extremely remote communities.
Karlamilyi is is WA’s largest national park, located 260km east of Newman in the middle of the Great and Little Sandy Deserts. It’s at the heart of Martu ngurra, and provides cultural, spiritual, economic and social connections for all Martu families and language groups.
The highway will help reduce travel time and cost for Martu traveling across their ngurra, as well as lowering the costs of delivering supplies to communities.
It will also open up significant cultural tourism and service economy opportunities for the Martu people including improved access to iconic destinations to respond to a demand for more authentic, Aboriginal led cultural tourism experiences.
We hope to see this highway built within 5 years.
